People are Talking
I had the privilege of participating in the Intervene Challenge in 2016. As a result of the training I arranged for members of the 101st Airborne at Ft Campbell to do the same. Suicide can be reduced. Lives can be saved. It will take the efforts of many within our communities willing to engage those that are hurting. Those that truly want to make a difference in reducing suicide would be well served and prepared by taking AFM's Intervene Challenge and learning the L3 model.

It is not hyperbole when I say Listen Learn Lead and the Intervene Challenge was the most impactful professional learning I have encountered in my 20-year career. I left the training a different person, equipped with the skills to save a life. I recommend this training, to everyone.

Our Mission
Our mission is the eradication of suicide, period! Along with a primary emphsis on the reduction of veteran and first responder suicides, we also provide a strong committment to serving all community members in keeping with our creed as soldiers to serve the people of the United States of America. Through AFM individuals at risk find an authentic power to choose life. As a Fireman with 10 years of service recently said, "AFM has ignited a culture of health that literally saved my life."
When we are not doing interventions, we are training others to do what we do and have now surpassed the 17,000 mark in the number of individuals trained in the Intervene Challenge featuring our own Listen Learn Lead Suicide Intervention model and other world class curriculums.
We invite you to join us. Take the Challenge or better yet, contact us today about organizing the Intervene Challenge for your community. At AFM we provide Donors, Volunteers, and Community Advocates a platform to eradicate suicide and transform lives.

After conducting more than 1,400 interventions for those at imminent risk I can say with 100% certainty that I have never met anyone that really wanted to die. Suicide is not the result of wanting to die. It is the result of loss. Thoughts can get muddled by trauma, stress, loss, poor health, strained relationships and a host of other things. Suicide is never the primary thought; it is always something else that leads to the thought. Having someone to talk with is vital to moving through such thoughts to the place of hope, life, and a future.
Life can be a challenge and sometimes our greatest challenge is knowing how to help those who are facing their own. |
I am grateful for the thousands that have rallied to the call, accepting the challenge to build a culture of health for thousands more that have found renewed hope and resilience. I am also grateful for our leadership and the many incredible partners that sustain the work which has allowed AFM to be a driving force in turning the tide on suicide.
