LOSS Teams

Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors is an Active Postvention Model of developed by Dr. Frank Campbell that involves a team of first responders who go to the scene of a suicide and provide support and referral for those bereaved by the suicide. The goal has been to shorten the elapsed time between the death and survivors finding the help they feel will help them cope with this devastating loss. The Active Postvention Model has been shown to have a positive impact on First Responders responding to suicide and the newly bereaved that have experienced loss. The model has now been replicated in countries as diverse as Australia, Singapore, Northern Ireland, Canada and America. The AFM LOSS Team is available to agencies, schools, churches, families and indivduals within the Southern Crescent of Atlanta GA.

Rally in the 9th

A regional emphasis of the Intervene Challenge for Georgia's 9th Congressional District located in the northeastern portion of the state. Home to more than 714,000 Georgians, from Athens to the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest; unfortunately, the 9th is also home to six of the ten highest suicide counties in the state, including the top three. The 9th District has a 10-year suicide rate 21% higher than the state average and 19 of the 20 counties have a higher suicide rate than the national average. More than 1,400 lives have been lost in the past ten years creating a future economic productivity loss of nearly $2 Billion. But no price can be put on the emotional and mental pain that such losses generate. 9th District Partners include: The UNG Alumni Association, Georgia Family Connection Region 2,
Sigma Nu Kappa Chapter Alumni, Woodmen Life, Union County Public Schools, Leonhard Schiemer School of Psychology and Biblical Counseling at Truett McConnell University, and Mountain Education Charter High School.

AFM911

AFM is honored to work closely with the First Responder Community in providing not only training but assistance in serving personnel that need a caring and confidential ear that helps build resilience and restore hope.  We look forward to serving your agency.
Armed Forces Mission is a great community partner to the Peachtree City Police Department. We have been able to send several officers to the Intervene Challenge training events where they have gained the skills needed to assist people in crisis within our community. Because of AFM 911 our officers are fully equipped to recognize and respond to someone that is considering suicide.
Chief Janet Moon, Peachtree City Police Department

AFM's L3 training has helped our officers understand the one sign that is always missed when there are no other signs.
Sgt. Renee McCollum, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office

1 Reason 2 Live

A Faith Community emphasis of the Intervene Challenge led by Chaplain Kenneth "Lou" Koon to train members of the faith community in the skills of suicide intervention. The enemy of life is hopelessness; the result for many is often suicide. Utilizing the Listen Learn Lead curriculum the 1 Reason 2 Live Conference trains ordinary individuals in the extraordinary task of intervening in the lives of those at risk. It is our goal that the faith community as the beacon of hope will address the epidemic of suicide for all people within their respective communities. According to Lifeway Research 35% of suicide victims attended worship services in the month prior to death. Churches have an incredible opportunity to turn the tide and restore hope.  76 percent of churchgoers say suicide is a problem that needs to be addressed in their community.
